Sabi-Sabi Big 5 Experience
Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge
In June I joined 4 other photographers to cover an international travel event that took place at the Sabi Sabi game reserve.
We covered the whole event from the game viewing, family photos and all events that took place for this fantastic african experience.
There were a couple of surprises for me on this event, first was being flown in to the park via charter plane, a whole new experience for me!
We were then greeted by all the amazing staff at the Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge where I would be staying for the week. Now these guys know how to look after guests, they were seriously spectacular!
Literally 5 min into the drive to the lodge we came upon a beautiful white Rhino, now as most South african know, the first thing you ever see in a park in SA is an Impala, so this was a bit of a shock for me but wow, what an awesome one!
The next big surprise I got happened when walking into the lodge reception. Sitting on the couch waiting to leave was one of my absolute heroes in the Photography World, world renowned Photographer Joe Mcnally. I have been following his work for years and what a great moment it was to meet him in person. You can see his work here www.joemcnally.com
The week was incredible!! We started the week of with seeing a buffalo kill on the first night! I got to see a Leopard in the wild for the first time in 22 years!! and a ground hornbill killing a Boomslang. We also did a walk in the bush with trackers getting up close and personal to Lions , Rhino and a African Rock Python… IT WAS AWESOME!!
We were Up at 5am every morning for game drives, other family activities during the day, educational talks and a Snake demonstration that totally freaked me out!! Those who know me know what a fear i have of snakes, and you will see it on the photo!! haha.
These are a few of the photos I manage to catch while on the trip.
